Policies/FAQ

Cancellation Policy

Your appointment time is reserved especially for you. I kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to make any changes or cancel your appointment. This allows me to offer the time to another client and helps my practice run smoothly.

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged 50% of the appointment fee for the first occurrence. Missed appointments (no-shows) or repeated late cancellations will be charged 100% of the appointment fee. Whenever possible, I will make reasonable efforts to fill the appointment before applying a cancellation fee. Any outstanding fees must be paid prior to booking future appointments.

If you arrive late, your session will still end at the originally scheduled time, and the full appointment fee will apply.

Illness

If you begin to feel unwell prior to your appointment, or within five (5) days of your scheduled visit, please let me know as soon as possible. Out of care for your health and the wellbeing of others, clients who arrive with symptoms of illness may be denied treatment.

Cancellations due to illness made within three (3) hours of the appointment time, as well as missed appointments, may still be subject to the cancellation fee.

Communicable Conditions

For everyone’s comfort and safety, I kindly ask that you let me know in advance if you are experiencing any infectious or communicable conditions. This may include skin infections, cold sores/HSV outbreaks, skin or plantar warts, athlete’s foot, shingles, or other transmissible conditions.

In many cases, treatment can still proceed with simple precautions, such as keeping the affected area covered during treatment, as well as while undressing and redressing. Reaching out ahead of time allows us to have a thoughtful conversation and determine what feels safest and most appropriate for your session.

Practitioner Cancellation

If I am unwell or unable to provide treatment, I will offer as much notice as possible and will do my best to rebook your appointment. Please note that rebooking is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping create a safe, respectful, and supportive care environment for everyone

ICBC and WorkSafe BC

Currently I am not accepting any new ICBC clients. I do not accept WorkSafe claims at this time.

Direct Billing

Direct billing is currently available to Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, GreenShield, and Telus eClaims.

Please check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage and any requirements, including whether a doctor’s note is needed. Unless your insurer is listed above, payment is required at the time of your appointment, and you will be responsible for submitting your receipt directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Please note that direct billing is not guaranteed. In the event of service disruptions—such as insurer system outages, billing software issues, or connectivity problems—I may be unable to submit a claim on your behalf. In these cases, full payment will be required at the time of treatment, and a receipt will be provided for you to submit manually.

Most insurance plans cover Massage Therapy for conditions related to illness or injury that are not the result of motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, or other accident-related claims.

To set up direct billing, insurance companies require a signed Consent to Authorize Direct Billing form. Please ensure all required paperwork is completed prior to your appointment. If forms are incomplete, full payment will be required and you will need to submit your claim independently.

Boundaries and Respect

As your RMT, I am committed to providing a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment. I will always conduct myself professionally, protect the confidentiality of your personal and health information, work within my scope of practice to support your health and well-being, and respect your boundaries. If you have any special requirements, concerns, or past experiences—including trauma—that may affect your treatment, I welcome you to share this with me

How to share your needs:

- At the start of your session: You can mention any specific requirements or preferences during our consultation before we begin treatment.

- Before booking: If you feel more comfortable, you can let me know in advance via email or text so I can prepare accordingly.

Inappropriate Behaviour and Violation of Boundaries:

Please be advised that if a client exhibits any form of inappropriate behaviour—whether it be sexual comments, gestures, advances, or threatening actions— your RMT reserves the right to terminate the session immediately. In such cases, the client will be charged the full fee for the session, and further appointments will be denied.

Safety & Hygiene

I follow all required health and safety protocols, including thoroughly sanitizing all equipment and treatment spaces between clients. Fresh linens are used for every session, and strict personal hygiene practices are maintained to ensure a clean and comfortable environment.

Scent & Fragrance Policy

Many individuals—including myself—are sensitive to strong scents, particularly artificial or floral scents. For this reason, I kindly ask that you refrain from wearing heavily scented products such as perfumes, or colognes prior to your appointment.

Common sources of strong scents may include:

  • Scented hair products, deodorants, aftershave, or beard oils

  • Cigarette or cannabis smoke, including vaping products

  • Strong food odours or noticeable body odour

Please note that the clinic is not a fully scent-free environment, as essential oils or diffusers may be used occasionally with care and consideration to prioritise natural, generally well tolerated scents. If you have a heightened sensitivity to scents, please notify your RMT in advance so accommodations can be discussed.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration!

What to expect for your massage appointment

Before Your Appointment:
Please complete the health history form sent to your email prior to your first visit. At your appointment, we will review your health history, current concerns, and treatment goals. This information is kept confidential and is used to guide a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. Appointment time includes the required intake, hands-on treatment, and any homecare recommendations.

Informed Consent
I will explain the techniques used, areas of focus, pressure levels, and any potential risks or side effects before and during treatment. You are encouraged to ask questions and share concerns at any time. Consent is ongoing, and you may request changes or stop treatment at any point.

Privacy & Comfort

Your comfort, privacy, and sense of safety are always respected. Before your session, you’ll be guided on how to prepare and are welcome to undress only to your personal comfort level.

For Swedish massage treatments, typically the areas being treated will be undressed for ease of treatment; however, I ask that underwear remain on. If at any point you prefer not to undress, your session can be fully adapted to work over clothing or through the sheet.

Professional draping techniques are used throughout the treatment, with only the area being treated uncovered.
During CranioSacral Therapy, Therapeutic Yoga, or some Joint Mobilizations, you will remain dressed, so please wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in.

After Your Session
Following treatment, we will review the session together, including areas addressed and any relevant observations. Homecare or self-care suggestions may be provided to support your ongoing care.

Billing & Insurance
Massage Therapy treatments are eligible for coverage under many extended health insurance plans in British Columbia. If direct billing is unavailable, you will receive an insurance-compliant receipt for manual submission.

Maintaining a Therapeutic Relationship

To maintain a professional, effective, and ethical therapeutic environment, interactions between Registered Massage Therapists and clients are strictly limited to the treatment setting. Engaging outside of this context—including friendships anddating, or any form of personal relationship—is not permitted.

This boundary is crucial to preserving objectivity and ensuring that your therapeutic needs remain the sole focus of each session. When RMTs adhere to this standard, it fosters trust, respect, and safety, allowing clients to feel fully supported in their treatment journey.

How are RMTs regulated?

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in British Columbia are regulated by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC). Established in June 2024 through the amalgamation of the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC), the CCHPBC is responsible for setting and enforcing professional standards to protect public safety and ensure high-quality care.

Key components of RMT regulation in BC include:

  • Professional Standards & Ethics: RMTs must adhere to strict standards related to informed consent, confidentiality, ethical practice, and client safety.

  • Scope of Practice: RMTs are trained to assess, treat, and help prevent physical dysfunction, pain, and soft tissue conditions using massage therapy techniques.

  • Registration & Licensing: RMTs must graduate from an accredited massage therapy program and successfully complete written and clinical board examinations.

  • Continuing Education: RMTs are required to complete ongoing Continuing Education Credits (CECs) to maintain active registration.

  • Complaints & Discipline: The CCHPBC investigates public complaints and takes disciplinary action when necessary.

British Columbia is widely recognized as one of the most highly regulated provinces for massage therapy in Canada.
